Have you ever been to a football game. . .where the cheerleaders were chanting “Defense. Defense. Push’em back. Push’em way back?”
Perhaps you’ve watched a recent college basketball game with either the University of North Carolina Tar Heels or the Duke Blue Devils where the fans began chanting “Defense.”
Regardless of the sport, “defense” means to stop the advance of an opponent. . .if you will, an adversary or enemy.
So you can imagine my surprise when I recently got a fresh look at Ecclesiastes 7:12 which says:
“For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.”
The Hebrew word for defence is tzel (H6738) and it means:
“Shadow, shade, protection.”
In other words, your defense should protect and shield you from the assaults of the enemy. . .the ravages of a world turned upside down and the desperation that comes from living in lack.
Lack steals more than your money...it robs you of your dreams...your future...your hope...your ability to bless those you love and help those God directs you to bless.
Money is your defense.
The Message Bible translation of Ecclesiastes 7:12 says:
“Double protection: wisdom and wealth! Plus this bonus: Wisdom energizes its owner.”
Wisdom and wealth. . .now that’s what I call getting to the point.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
