Why do people talk to themselves?
Some people will say. . .it’s because they’re starved for intelligent conversation which most certainly reflects on the people around them.
Others say that people who talk to themselves are a hamburger short of a Happy Meal.
While both scenarios may be true. . .I would submit to you. . .that talking to yourself. . .is not only ok. . .it’s the right thing to do. . .scripturally speaking.
Ephesians 5:19 says:
“Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.”
Speaking to yourself. . .making melody in your heart to the Lord.
Some would say. . .this verse is talking about singing to the Lord. Yes, that’s true but it’s not all the truth.
The Greek word for speaking also means:
“to utter a voice or emit a sound; to speak; to talk and to use words in order to declare one's mind and disclose one's thoughts”
In fact, the next verse reveals what we’re to say to ourselves.
Ephesians 5:20 says:
“Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Now you know what you’re to talk about. . .and remember. . .
It’s okay to talk to yourself. . .it’s okay to answer yourself. . .but just don’t say “Huh?” when doing so. That is a joke.
Speak on!
