Killing Your Personal Giants

. .

We have all faced giants.

We have all faced demonic giants.

We have all faced self-created giants or, at least, I have.

Yes, the giants my own behavior created.

It is not boasting to say we are experienced giant killers.

With the giants lined up against us. . .it was either kill or be killed.

1 Samuel 14:41-42 in the New King James Version says:

So the Philistine came, and began drawing near to David, and the man who bore the shield went before him. 42 And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him; for he was only a youth, ruddy and good-looking.”

The Holy Spirit will empower Giant Killers of all ages.

Young or old, God will enable you to overcome your adversary.

David was a young, good looking guy...and Goliath underestimated him.

The forces of hell will always underestimate the abilities of the people of God.

1 John 4:4 in the Amplified Bible, Classic Edition says:

“Little children, you are of God [you belong to Him] and have [already] defeated and overcome them [the agents of the antichrist], because He Who lives in you is greater (mightier) than he who is in the world.”

I feel stirred to make this statement once again. . .because you really need to get it engrafted deep inside of you.

I feel so strongly about this. . .that we’ve included it on the outline on our website under Sunday Night Services Join Harold & Bev.  Here it is:

The forces of hell will always underestimate the abilities of the people of God.

Philippians 4:13 in the Amplified Bible, Classic Edition says:

“I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency].”

The next statement I’m about to make is fundamental to your victory over all your personal giants.

The reason the hordes of hell underestimate the believer’s ability is because the believer often underestimates himself.

By ourselves and in our own power, we are not much. But, with the Holy Spirit resting upon us for battle, we are destined to win.

Here are 7 ways to ensure victory against even your greatest giants.

1)  Expect Your Enemy To Speak Disparaging Words.

1 Samuel 14:43 in the New King James Version says:

So the Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.”

Psychological warfare is nothing new.

It’s centuries old and remains a favorite trick of Satan.

Joyce Meyer got it right.  The battlefield is our mind.  If you’ve never read this revelatory book by her . . .I strongly encourage you to do so.

Go to christiansoldierbookstore.com and you can order “Battlefield of the Mind” at a discount.

Goliath, a type of Satan, immediately began to speak intimidating words.

You may not hear Satan's words out loud, but they will be spoken against your life. They will often come from inside your mind and you think they are somehow your words.

No, those are the whispers of satanic demons hoping you will think they are yours.

Have you ever had someone speak evil of you. . .or as the slang goes. . .talk smack about you?

The natural response is to either verbally strike back at the person saying and sometimes spreading unkind and untruthful things or adapt a self-defeating position of thinking they are true.

Before you respond to your enemy, think on these scriptures:

Ephesians 4:31 in the Amplified Bible, Classic Edition says:

“Let all bitterness and indignation and wrath (passion, rage, bad temper) and resentment (anger, animosity) and quarreling (brawling, clamor, contention) and slander (evil-speaking, abusive or blasphemous language) be banished from you, with all malice (spite, ill will, or baseness of any kind).”

If you can’t let the offending parties have it. . .then how should you respond?

Romans 12:17-19 in the Message Bible says:

“Don’t hit back; discover beauty in everyone. If you’ve got it in you, get along with everybody. Don’t insist on getting even; that’s not for you to do. “I’ll do the judging,” says God. “I’ll take care of it.”

Should you really believe the negatives of others?

Proverbs 3:5-6 in the New King James Bible says:

“Trust in theLordwith all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall directyour paths.”

Instead of internalizing and acting out what others say about you… consider doing what Proverbs 16:3 in the Amplified Bible, Classic Edition says:

“Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be establishedandsucceed.”

2)  Anticipate And Fortify Yourself Against The Threats Of Your Enemy.

1 Samuel 14:44 in the New King James Version says:

And the Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!”

I deal with people fighting against problems on a daily basis.

Almost all of us will have times of fearing a "worst case scenario."

Sadly, too many believers feel defeated before they even get started because of the “Worst Case Scenario” they’ve created in their own minds.

Live today, even plan for tomorrow but don’t let worry and anxiety steal your joy

Matthew 6:34 in the Message Bible says:

"Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don't get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.”

Give your attention to WHAT God is doing RIGHT NOW.

Don’t worry about things you can’t change. . .don’t fret about today or tomorrow. . .don’t play the WCS game (Worst Case Scenario) or give any thought to negative things that might happen. . .and even if things should go south . .  don’t sink with them. . .rise up in your faith. . .because you have the assurance. . .the promise of the most high God.  Your heavenly Father loves you!

You don’t have to know all the answers if your assurance is in the One who has all the answers.

God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.”

God will help YOU. . .are you getting this?

Say it out loud. . .GOD WILL HELP ME.

The enemy will paint the worst picture imaginable. . .don’t fall for his lies.

The idea of being killed was bad enough.  But Goliath painted a more gruesome outcome in his attempts to defeat David before he began.

Not only would David die, he would not be returned to his family for burial. Goliath bragged that David's body would be left on the battle field to be eaten by birds.

3)  Announce Your Expectation Of Victory.

1 Samuel 14:45 in the New King James Version says:

Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”

Stop listening to hell whispering in your head.

Hell "spews" for a reason.

The words of the enemy are designed to rob your faith.

Ephesians 6 in the New King James Version tells us to put on the whole armour of God.  Verse 16 says in part:

“. . .above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.”

Begin speaking words of faith back to your enemy.

2 Corinthians 4:13-15 in the Message Bible says:

“We’re not keeping this quiet, not on your life. Just like the psalmist who wrote, “I believed it, so I said it,” we say what we believe. And what we believe is that the One who raised up the Master Jesus will just as certainly raise us up with you, alive. Every detail works to your advantage and to God’s glory: more and more grace, more and more people, more and more praise!”

Always remember. . .you’re destined to win.

Personalize that.

<<Your Name>> is destined to win.

You may not see evidence of your impending victory. . .but you must know that according to the Word of God. . .it’s coming.

Romans 4:17 in The Living Bible says:

“. . .And this promise is from God himself, who makes the dead live again and speaks of future events with as much certainty as though they were already past.”

Speak to your victory because it’s yours … already bought and paid for.

4)  Issue A Faith-Filled Description Of Your Expected Outcome.

1 Samuel 14:46-47 in the New King James Version says:

This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.47 Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.”

David began repelling the demon spirits arrayed against Him. His words were based on the authority of the God whom he knew was faithful to His promises.

David had a plan of his own.  Not only was Goliath going to die but what he predicted for David would be his own demise.

David announced plans of his own.  He intended to kill Goliath...and cut off his head as proof of the superiority of Jehovah God.

In killing our personal giants one of the greatest battles we face. . .is involving God in our battles.

“. . .for the battle is the Lord’s and He will give you into our hands.”

David is bragging on his God and that’s something we should be doing every day.

No matter what you’re facing or the intensity of the battle. . .it’s not really your fight. . .it’s Gods.

2 Chronicles 20:15 in the Amplified Bible, Classic Edition says:

“He said, Hearken, all Judah, you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you King Jehoshaphat. The Lord says this to you: Be not afraid or dismayed at this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.”

When we move in faith. . .speaking victory over our personal giants. . .we don’t even have to fight the battle.

2 Chronicles 20:17 in The Living Bible says:

“But you will not need to fight! Take your places; stand quietly and see the incredible rescue operation God will perform for you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem! Don’t be afraid or discouraged! Go out there tomorrow, for the Lord is with you!’”

Now here’s a right now word for each of us from this scripture.

“Go out there tomorrow, for the Lord is with you.”

Don’t dread the meeting with your boss scheduled for this week. . .in fact, don’t dread anything. . .for the Lord is with you.

This should give you a powerful sense of confidence with the scriptural assurance. . .that you don’t have to fear tomorrow . . . anything or anybody . . . for the Lord is with you.

5)  Run Toward Your Enemy.

1 Samuel 14:8 in the New King James Version says:

So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.”

Goliath stepped toward David.

Instead of moving back, David ran forward.

Imagine the confusion this generated in the Philistine Army.

Consider the faith that began to rise in the hopeless Army of Israel.

David was moving without fear. . .but with a spiritual confidence in His great God Jehovah.

When you refuse to allow fear to break your momentum. . .when you know who you are in Him. . .then you will have a boldness in speaking to the giants in your life.

1 Samuel 17:46 says:

“This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.”

Who gave David the victory?  “The Lord will deliver thee into mine hand.”

In reading 1 Samuel 17:47 we clearly see David knew where his victory was coming from and so should we.

“And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hands.”

David ran to his giant with his mouth open. . .with a spiritual momentum that was unstoppable. . .as Goliath fatally discovered.

Your momentum can’t be stopped unless you quit believing and speaking what God is speaking.

When we do our part. . .God will do His part.

Zechariah 4:6 says:

“Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.”

Every believer who uses principles based on the Word. . .will be energized, enlightened and empowered by the Holy Spirit and will kill their personal giants because the Lord is with them.

6)  Pull The Trigger On Your Enemy.

1 Samuel 14:49-50 in the New King James Version says:

Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. 50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him.”

David didn’t stop to feel Goliath’s pulse. . .no, he didn’t stop or hesitate.  He finished the job.

1 Samuel 17:51-52 in the Amplified Bible says:

“So he ran and stood over the Philistine, grasped his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw that their [mighty] champion was dead, they fled. The men of Israel and Judah stood with a shout and pursued the Philistines as far as the entrance to the valley and the gates of Ekron. And the [fatally] wounded Philistines fell along the way. . .”

When you take out your giant . . . when you stop him from causing you problems. . .don’t hesitate. . .finish the job.

There is a time to announce your intentions.

There is a time to let the rock fly toward your enemy.

Brandishing your spiritual weapon is okay.  But putting your weapon to work is more effective.

In our case. . .when we speak the Word of God. . .we are accurately attacking every trick, trap, lie, deception and wile of the enemy.

Ephesians 6:17 finishes describing the whole armour of God by saying:

“…and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

7)  Celebrate The Proof Of God's Greatness Your Victory Produces.

Let’s look at 1 Samuel 14:51 again. . .this time in the New King James Version which says:

“But there was no sword in the hand of David.51 Therefore David ran and stood over the Philistine, took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it.”

The words we speak are not just for natural hearers.

Much of our speaking involves discouraging demonic spirits.

David then demonstrated that his words of faith would create a natural result.

The King-in-Waiting declared He would kill Goliath.  But the symbolism was even more powerful.

The reasoning and strategic part of Goliath, his thought process, was separated from his massively powerful and intimidating body.

Move out in faith today.  Speak bold words of faith.  Declare your giant dying and dead.

Get ready to sever his head from his body...and wave it in the face of his allies.

Not only will you win, you will encourage others to kill their giants, too.

Other giants will be positioned to die when you kill yours.

To summarize what we taught on killing your personal giant.   Let’s look at

1 Samuel 17:45 once again where it says:

“Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.”

It’s time to kill the giants that have been holding you back from your Promised Land.

Let us leave you with Romans 8:31-32 in the New King James Version which says:

“What then shall we say to these things? If Godisfor us, whocan beagainst us?32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?”

The point is … He freely gives … now we must receive,
