Think Differently. . .Starting Today

. .

It’s one thing to think about what you want to do. It’s another thing to speak about what you plan to do.

But, it’s an entirely different matter to act on what you’ve been thinking and speaking about doing.

One evening, after a particularly long day. . .I came across James 1:22-24 in the Message Bible which says:

“Don't fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear! Those who hear and don't act are like those who glance in the mirror, walk away, and two minutes later have no idea who they are, what they look like.”

I was struck by five words in this passage of scripture when it says:

Even before the Lord dropped Rich Thoughts into my spirit nearly twelve years ago, I’ve always considered myself a Rich Thinker. . .someone who acted on what they believed.

As I was reflecting on this. . .the Lord directed me to challenge us to think differently.

Action Step #1   Start with Rich Thoughts.

Success or failure. . .victory or defeat. . .excellence or mediocrity all begin in the mind.

Never allow what other people think or say about you change your thoughts about your ability to achieve your dreams and goals.

It’s what you think about how God thinks about you. . .that will determine your destiny.

Proverbs 23:7 says:

“As he (a man) thinketh in his heart, so is he…”

Every thought, word, action and reaction we experience begins in our mind.

Thoughts have substance. The things you think about are the things you speak about. The things you speak about are the things you bring about.

Unfortunately, many people grow up thinking about the negative things others have expressed to them.

It’s time to stop letting other people use your head as a septic tank.

If you just thought “I can’t. I have too much negative in me,” I want to ask you a question. Who told you that? Even if you don’t remember, you believed them. Now, stop believing them and start believing God.

Today, you can begin to put the pure, the powerful, and the positive precepts from the Word of God into your mind.

You can actually change your attitude about yourself when you stop letting negative thoughts dominate your mind. Avoid such phrases as:

“I can’t do that.”

“I’d probably mess it up anyhow.”

“There is no way I’m going to win this.”

“They’d probably just turn me down.”

“I’ve got to do this or I’ll be out of here.”

“He (or she) would never be interested in anybody like me.”

Today is the first day of the rest of your life. It is time for you to begin putting positive Rich Thought-builders into your mind.

Practice saying these phrases:

“Lord, I thank you that I’m happy, rested, and ready for another exciting adventure with you. I am inspired by what I will be able to accomplish as you work through me.”

“Today, I am going to see myself as God sees me.”

“I’m excited about today. It’s a special gift from God just for me.”

“Today, God will allow me to be an encouragement to everybody I meet.”

“People like me because they can sense the fruit of the spirit in my life.”

“I will like everyone I meet because I am going to look at them the way God looks at them.”

“I rejoice because today God is giving me favor with every person I meet.”

“I will eat in a healthy manner and honor my body as the temple of the Holy Spirit.”

“I will be on time for every appointment.”

“I will perform my job as unto the Lord, doing the very best I can.”

“I will rapidly and thoroughly complete all my responsibilities today. I will not put off the things I need to do.”

“I am an overcomer. I am more than a conqueror. I am the righteousness of God in Christ. I am fulfilling His purpose for my life.”

Each of us has to make a determined effort. . .to be a Rich Thinker. In fact, one of several books I’m working one is entitled “Rich Thoughts for Poor Thinkers.”

Action Step #2   Speak your rich thoughts into reality.

Twelve guidelines using the Word of God to change your thinking into a positive, godly rich thoughts.

1.      You must speak to those things that are not as though they were (Romans 4:17).   Your daily confessions should be about who you want to become, not who you are … or who you think you are which may not even be true.

Begin to see yourself as God sees you and you will eventually become how He sees you. Don’t give up and you will change.

2.      Make your rich thoughts as specific as possible. If you are confessing an exercise program, then make a definite confession. “I will ride bikes with my family every night before supper.” What if you only end up riding bikes one night in seven? You still did what you said and you are on your way to greater achievement.

3.      It is important that your rich thoughts reflect the here and now and not the hereafter. Don’t say, “Tomorrow, I’m going to start reading three chapters a week in the Bible,” or, “After Junior’s birthday, I’m going to cut back on my sweets.” Changing your thought process starts today. . .not tomorrow.

4.      Make your rich thoughts free from guilt. Instead of saying, “If I’m ever going to get closer to God, I’ve got to get up an hour earlier to read my Bible.” Instead, say, “Thank you, Lord, that I am rested, refreshed and ready to spend an hour with you.” And say it no matter how you feel.

5.      Put some feeling into your rich thoughts confession. “Thank you, Lord, I no longer desire those fat-building, artery-clogging, clothes-tightening desserts.”

6.      Make each rich thoughts confession for at least twenty-one days. Studies show any action taken daily for twenty-one days will very likely become a habit. The habits we form become the lifestyles we live.

7.      Take small but consistent efforts at first. When your confession has changed one part of your thought process. . .focus on another. . .but don’t overdo it.

8.      Create early victories. Think, speak, confess and act. . For example, “I will hang up my clothes each evening.” Then do it.

9.      Don’t brag to your friends or co-workers about changing. This will only put increased pressure on you. Remember, you are not doing this for them. It’s for you. Let them see the results in a more energized, godly you.

10.    Your thought-changing process should focus on goals that are within reach. If you work an eight-hour day, commute an hour and a half, spend three hours cooking, eating, then helping the children with their homework, it is unreasonable to plan to read an entire book in one night. A more attainable goal would be reading one chapter a night.

11.    Write each rich thought-builder on a 3X5 card or in your smart phone. Carry it will you all day. Treat these thought-builders like meals. Meditate on them morning, noon, and night, and snack in between, too.

12.    Don’t stop until you see your rich thought-processes changing…how you act and react.

Matthew 12:34 in the New Living Translation says:

“You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say.”

Did you catch that?

Whatever is in your heart determines what you say.”

Matthew 12:35 says:

“A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.”

Let me break it down and give you the anatomical flow. Heart. . .Head. . .Mouth.

Proverbs 13:2 says:

“A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.”

Your words have a magnetic power. . .they will draw to your life thoughts and actions that have the power to shape your destiny.

Action #3  Cover your rich thoughts with prayer.

When you open your mouth to speak or pray. . .your words are heard beyond your natural surroundings. Your words penetrate the heavenlies.

First, God hears you.

Psalm 145:19 says:

“He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.”

Jeremiah 29:12-14 in the Amplified Bible says;

“Then you will call upon Me, and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear and heed you.   Then you will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me [as a vital necessity] and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will release you from captivity. . .”

The words you speak to Him are not only heard but acted on.

Psalm 86:5 says:

“In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.”

Second, angels hear you.

Psalm 103:20 says:

“Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.”

Saying that the angels “excel in strength” clearly indicates that aren’t some chubby little cherubims that you see in some religious art. God is dispatching the strongest. . .the most elite, warrior angels on your behalf. God’s angels can get the job done!

Next, He tells the angels to follow His instructions and obey the voice of His Word.

Get ready for this. . .

Child of God, when you speak the Word of God. . .you are summoning the strongest. . .most elite. . .warrior angels to work on your behalf.

When you speak the Word of God, angles are commanded to obey just like Daniel 10:12-13.

Can somebody say. . .Hallelujah!

Action Step #4   Rich Thoughts are created studying the Word

2 Timothy 2:15 says:

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

The scripture says study. It doesn’t say “read once,” “glance over,” or “speed read through.” The Word says study and I know the Holy Spirit used that Word for a reason.

Study is defined in as:

“application of the mind to the acquisition of knowledge, as by reading, investigation, or reflection.”

As I read the definition of study, it quickened in my spirit that the real process of “studying to show yourself approved” is contained in this definition.

Study is the acquisition of knowledge by reading, investigating and reflecting.

It’s simple really. . .studying is a seed that you plant and the harvest is knowledge that you acquire. In fact, the scripture says in Mark 4:24 in the Amplified Bible that you will receive back more that you sowed.

“And He said to them, Be careful what you are hearing. The measure [of thought and study] you give [to the truth you hear] will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you--and more [besides] will be given to you who hear.”

Studying the word is the key to becoming a rich thinker who experiences success in life.

Joshua 1:8 in the New Living Translation says:

“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”

Something else just stirred in me about this scripture. . .so let’s look at 2 Timothy 2:15 one more time.

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

According to the Strong’s Concordance the word workman is the Greek word ergates (G2040) and it means “a workman, labourer.” However, it is from the root word ergon (G2041) and it means:

“any product whatever, anything accomplished by hand, art, industry, or mind; an act, deed, thing done.”

A workman is someone who gets things done in such a manner that there can be no criticism of their efforts or deeds. In fact, their deeds will be of a worthwhile nature with no complaints from upper management.

That’s a cool way to refer to God, as upper management.

Action Step #5   Create your own team of Rich Thinkers.

If you’ve ever read any book on success. . .you know that most authors will recommend that you secure the advice of someone already successful in your field of endeavor.

Napoleon Hill in his book “Think And Grow Rich” suggests that we create a Master Mind Alliance. . .a team of people whose advice we value. . .and whose past experience increases our probability for success.

Let’s look at what the greatest success book ever written has to say.

Ephesians 4:16 in the Amplified Bible says:

“For because of Him the whole body (the church, in all its various parts), closely joined and firmly knit together by the joints and ligaments with which it is supplied, when each part [with power adapted to its need] is working properly [in all its functions], grows to full maturity, building itself up in love.”

One more verse. . .

1 Corinthians 12:25 in the Amplified Bible says:

“So that there should be no division or discord or lack of adaptation [of the parts of the body to each other], but the members all alike should have a mutual interest in and care for one another.”

When I read this scripture I was reminded of an anagram for the word TEAM that I learned years ago.

This anagram to me. . .everything and everyone working together as one to bless others and in doing so. . .bless themselves.

Creating and utilizing your Rich Thinkers Group will help you avoid mistakes . . . reduce stress. . .think more creatively. . .and no doubt, achieve greater results with less aggravation.

Build your team of Rich Thinkers or join ours. . .it’s called Rich Thoughts For Breakfast.

Action Step #6   Rich Thinkers Make wise decisions.

Here are seven steps to making the right decisions.

First, make a decision.

Job 22:28 in The Living Bible says:

“You will decide on a matter, and it will be established for you, and light will shine on your ways.”

If you’ve been living in the land of not enough. . .occasionally traveling through life with just enough. . .then you need to decide that today. . .things are going to change.

Second, make a decision on whom you will serve.

1 Corinthians 2:2 in The Living Bible says:

“For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.

Third, decide to walk in His ways and keep His Word.

Deuteronomy 26:17 in the Amplified Bible says:

“You have [openly] declared the Lord this day to be your God, [pledging] to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes and His commandments and His precepts, and to hearken to His voice.”

Fourth, when you act on your decision. . .things begin to change.

Genesis 24:42 in the New Century Version says:

“Today I came to this spring. I said, ‘Lord, God of my master Abraham, please make my trip successful.”

Fifth, things change today. . .by the decisions you make or fail to make.

Deuteronomy 30:15 in The Living Bible says:

“Look, today I have set before you life and death, depending on whether you obey or disobey.”

Sixth, once you make a decision. . .He wants you to keep it.

Deuteronomy 6:6 in the New Century Version says:

“Always remember these commands I give you today.”

Seventh, decide today. . .how you will use your time.

Psalm 90:12 in the Contemporary English Version says:

“Teach us to use wisely all the time we have.”

You decide. . .not somebody else. . .not the passing of time on a clock. . .you decide what you will do with the every minute of every day God has given to you.

One more thing, you may not have what you want. . .because you don’t yet know what you want out of life.

Do you have what it takes to turn your TV off. . .mute your cell phone. . .put your computer in sleep mode and either review or create goals for your future success?

Now that would be a wise decision.

Action Step #7   Rich Thinkers Stay Focused.

Focus can either be used for good or for evil. Consider Paul.

1 Corinthians 15:9 in the Amplified Bible says:

“For I am the least [worthy] of the apostles, who am not fit or deserving to be called an apostle, because I once wronged and pursued and molested the church of God [oppressing it with cruelty and violence].”

Acts 8:3in the Amplified Bible says:

“But Saul shamefully treated and laid waste the church continuously [with cruelty and violence]; and entering house after house, he dragged out men and women and committed them to prison.”

Later, Jesus became the focus of Paul’s priorities but in a totally different manner.

Philippians 3:10-14 in the Amplified Bible says:

“10 [For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection which it exerts over believers], and that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even] to His death, [in the hope]

11 That if possible I may attain to the spiritual and moral] resurrection [that lifts me] out from among the dead [even while in the body].

12 Not that I have now attained [this ideal], or have already been made perfect, but I press on to lay hold of (grasp) and make my own, that for which Christ Jesus (the Messiah) has laid hold of me and made me His own.

13 I do not consider, brethren, that I have captured and made it my own [yet]; but one thing I do [it is my one aspiration]: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,

14 I press on toward the goal to win the [supreme and heavenly] prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward.”

Your focus changes. . .when your heart changes.

One more thing. . .Rich Thinkers must be immune to. . .overcome. . .ignore. . .or deal with those who would distract your focus.

When King David recovered the Ark of the Covenant. . .he was praising God with all his might as they entered the city.

David was excited as he entered his home. . .ready to share his success and bless his family. However, the one person who should have been the happiest to celebrate with him. . .was more concerned about what people thought about his dancing before the Lord.

His wife, Michal, the daughter of King Saul, harshly criticized and rebuked David.

But here’s the point, as you take action steps to become a Rich Thinker. . .you may meet opposition from unexpected sources while you’re on the verge of victory or even in your moment of rejoicing. It will take strong character to not let your spirit be dampened by negativity. . .that’s why your focus is so important.
