The first time I ever heard the term “point of contact” was while watching one of Oral Roberts old healing crusades when it played on our small black and white TV.
I remember Dr. Roberts stretching out his hands toward the TV camera and asking the viewers at home to extend their faith by touching his hand on the television screen as a point of contact.
Over the years, I’ve heard some men and women of God talk about a point of contact when it comes to the prayer of agreement.
I believe a point of contact is anything God instructs us to do to help release our faith.
We can say it another way. . .a point of contact provides a way for us to act on what the Word says and when we do. . .we release our faith to God.
Our point of contact could be the prayer of faith…the laying on of hands…an act of faith that causes you to move outside your comfort zone, Holy Communion…a prayer cloth or anything that requires a step of faith toward the previously unknown.
A point of contact is a method we use to reach God and obey His divine instructions.
Point of contact is also used in transferring the anointing and healing.
I’ve checked a dozen different translations and the phrase “point of contact” is nowhere to be found in the scriptures. However, I have personally experienced the power of God manifested through a point of contact and see it outlined in scripture. More about that later.
Here are seven instances where a point of contact was established by an amazing step of faith.
Remember, your point of contact is any act of obedience that proves your faith in God.
First, taking a step of faith outside your comfort zone.
Genesis 12:1-3 in the Amplified Bible says:
“Now [in Haran] the Lord said to Abram, Go for yourself [for your own advantage] away from your country, from your relatives and your father’s house, to the land that I will show you. 2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you [with abundant increase of favors] and make your name famous and distinguished, and you will be a blessing [dispensing good to others].
3 And I will bless those who bless you [who confer prosperity or happiness upon you] and curse him who curses or uses insolent language toward you; in you will all the families and kindred of the earth be blessed [and by you they will bless themselves].”
When we hear the voice of the Lord. . .sometimes it will require us to leave behind what’s familiar. This act of obedience by Abraham became his point of contact.
Genesis 12:2 in The Living Bible says:
“If you do, I will cause you to become the father of a great nation; I will bless you and make your name famous, and you will be a blessing to many others.”
“If you do. . .” means Abraham had a choice to make.
When we hear the voice of the Lord we will have a choice to make. When Abraham took a HUGE step of faith by leaving his comfort zone it became a point of contact for his destiny.
Are you ready to move outside your comfort zone?
Second, taking a risk is a step of faith outside your comfort zone.
In Joshua chapter six God gives very specific instructions to Joshua. . .he tells him to have the people, meaning the Children of Israel, walk around the city seven days in a row.
Don’t you know there were some nervous Nellies and frightened Franks walking around the city. . .they were talking about how thick the walls were. . .how Jericho had soldiers and even chariots lining the walls.
That’s probably why the people were given specific instructions that nothing should be said until the seventh day.
Joshua 6:10 in the New Living Translation says:
“Do not shout; do not even talk,” Joshua commanded. “Not a single word from any of you until I tell you to shout. Then shout!”
Sometimes our point of contact is to move by faith with our mouths shut.
Hebrews 11:30 in the New Living Translation says:
“It was by faith that the people of Israel marched around Jericho for seven days, and the walls came crashing down.”
Can somebody say “Hallelujah?”
When the children of Israel shouted. . .it became a point of contact for them. . .an audible release of their faith. . .which crushed the fear they had been facing.
Third, giving what you think you can’t afford to give. . .is a step of faith. . .a point of contact … if God says to give it.
2 Kings 17:12 says:
“And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”
God sent the prophet to see this widow at Zarephath. A lesser man of God may have wondered what God was up to when he saw how poor this woman was . . . but Elijah knew God wouldn’t have sent him there if He didn’t have a plan.
God always has a plan … whether we're aware of it or not.
When the widow looked around, she thought she was going to die.
Have you ever thought? This isn’t going to turn out well for me?
We can’t always control famine or other things that go on around us but none of it catches God by surprise. We need to always remember that.
As my fine wife Bev says. . .God is not in heaven wringing His hands wondering how everything is going to turn out. He has a plan.

The scripture indicates that God had given the widow an instruction but from her words to Elijah, but she had despaired of her answer coming.
Have you ever felt that way?
Child of God, you are about to discover something very powerful in 2 Kings 17:9 which says:
“Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.”
First, in the natural, it did not appear that this woman could be the one called to sustain the prophet.
Second, this widow woman faced many obstacles that could make her doubt what the man of God said, but she obeyed his instructions anyway.
Have you ever noticed that God doesn’t always ‘let you in on what He’s doing?’
You may think you’re at the end . . . with nowhere to turn. . .but I doubt that anyone seeing us tonight has faced the prospect of one last meal with your child before dying. She was not in a position to beg from others because no one else had anything either due to the famine.
This widow woman had a choice . . . in the direst of circumstances, she looked beyond her situation and acted in faith on the word given to her by the man of God.
As a result of that obedience the widow woman was told the following in 1 Kings 17:14 in the New Living Translation which says:
“. . .There will always be flour and olive oil left in your containers until the time when the Lord sends rain and the crops grow again!”
The woman’s point of contact was releasing the last morsel of food she had to the prophet.
You may have never been down to your last meal. . .but you may have been down to your last dollar. . .when God told you to sow it. Next time, view it as a point of contact rather than the end of the line.
Fourth, by faith doing what others wouldn’t do. . .is a point of contact.
1 Samuel 17:40 in the Contemporary English Version says:
“David took off the armor and picked up his shepherd's stick. He went out to a stream and picked up five smooth rocks and put them in his leather bag. Then with his sling in his hand, he went straight toward Goliath.”
David prepared for his fight with Goliath by reaching into the brook and selecting five smooth stones as ammunition. There is tremendous symbolism in the five stones which I really can’t get into during this teaching.
1 Samuel 17:40 says:
“And he took. . .five smooth stones of the brook…”
The Israelites were probably saying. . “stones, really. . .that kid is going to fight the giant with those little rocks. . .we’re in big trouble. . .we’re probably all going to die here today.”
The Philistines were probably snickering, laughing and anticipating a great victory.
But what seemed small and insignificant to most everybody else became a point of contact. . .a destiny changer in the hands of David.
David’s weapons of choice wouldn’t work for anybody else in Saul’s army . . .but that’s okay because he was the only one headed to the field of battle.
David picked his weapons of the brook. . .from the running water.
Water is often a type of the Holy Scriptures.
Ephesians 5:26 says:
“That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word.”
Without having to use much imagination, you can easily see the brook as representing the Word of God.
The best way to prepare for any battle. . .to ready yourself for victory. . .is by taking a step of faith. . .regardless of what others think. . .find your point of contact with your faith.
1 Samuel 17:49 says:
“Then David reached into his bag, took out a stone, hurled it from his sling, and struck the Philistine in the forehead. The stone sank into Goliath’s forehead, and he fell to the ground on his face.”
David’s faith was stirred by five smooth stones. . .they became his point of contact.
By doing so, you will slay every giant you’re facing. . .whether in the workplace, marketplace or the home place.
Fifth, starting with what you’ve got where you’re at. . .is a step of faith. . .a point of contact.
One of my favorite Bible stories is the story of the young boy with the five loaves and two fishes.
Matthew 14:15 says:
“This is a desert place, and the time is now past. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food.”
The disciples brought Jesus a negative report. Now get a picture of this…those closest to Jesus . . . those who had seen Him heal blinded eyes, restore lame limbs, and work mighty miracles. . .those closest to Him were hypnotized by the appearance of lack.
The message was clear. . .the disciples were saying, this is a “desert place” meaning there’s nothing here. . .no Chic-Fil A. . .no Subway. . .no Chinese buffet. . .we’d better send the people home because there’s nothing out here to eat.
Those closest to Jesus were still surveying situations with their natural eyes. They were bound by their circumstances. Sometimes in life, we get so blinded by our situation that we can’t focus on what possibilities are in front of us.
Sometimes we don’t even recognize a point of contact when it’s right in front of us.
John 5:8-9 in the New Living Translation says:
8Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up, 9"Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?"
Sometimes we have what we need for miracle manifestation right in front of us. However, we don’t view it as a point of contact. . .which will allow us to extend our faith.
Andrew brought the boy to Jesus. . .but he couldn’t see the miracle in the making because he was hypnotized by lack and limit thinking.
John 5:10-11 in the New Living Translation says:
10Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." There was plenty of grass in that place, and the men sat down, about five thousand of them. 11Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.
The seemingly insignificant loaves and fishes became the point of contact for a major miracle.
Sometimes what others overlook is what Jesus is looking for.
John 5:12-13 in the New Living Translation says:
12When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, "Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted." 13So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.”
When we sow what we consider to be insignificant. . .it becomes multiplied in the hands of Jesus.
Sixth, prayer cloths are a powerful point of contact
Acts 19:11-12 in the Amplified Bible says
“And God did unusual and extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul,
“So that handkerchiefs or towels or aprons which had touched his skin were carried away and put upon the sick, and their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them.”
The anointing of God is transferable and can be imparted from one person to another.
This is made evident as the power of God that worked through Paul was transmitted through what are now called "prayer cloths."
A prayer cloth is just what the name describes, a piece of cloth anointed with oil and prayed over.
The late Frances Hunter once sent me a handkerchief she had anointed and carried upon her person while praying for the sick.
So, inquiring minds will ask, "Did it work?" Please note that I am still alive!
Several years back, we created a Debt Free Anointing prayer cloth like the one I’m holding up before the camera.
We mailed the prayer cloths to partners and I carried them to meetings with me.
I remember a particular meeting in Birmingham, Alabama where I gave one of those handkerchiefs to a lady who requested it.
On the way home, the lady’s friend asked for the handkerchief as a point of contact and agreement. Within nine months … all her debts were paid in full.
The handkerchief was just a point of contact. . .nothing more. . .nothing less. But handkerchiefs, clothes and other objects can be used to transfer the anointing.
I remember being in a meeting where the late Buddy Harrison was teaching. . .he took his jacket off. . .and threw it on another ministry leader who was visibly moved. Buddy paused. . .looked at the man and said, “you’ve got the anointing on you now. . .finish this teaching and he sat down.” It was an amazing spiritual experience.
Seventh, your hands can be a powerful point of contact.
I want you to hold both your hands straight in front of you with your knuckles turned toward your face. . .now turn your hands over. . .so you are looking at the palms of your hands.
I want you to look carefully at your hands. . . because they represent much more than skin and bones. They may reveal your age or the things you’ve gone through. Your hands may be calloused, rough, smooth, or stained from work . . . but God wants you to understand something very special about your hands.
God wants us to know that our hands are much more than something to cover our mouths with when we yawn. . .something to eat with. . .something to comb our hair with. . .something to work with. . .something to play with.
When God looks at your hands, He sees unlimited potential for blessings, miracles, and prosperity. We have that authority as believers!
The scriptures are filled with miracles performed simply through the laying on of hands as a point of contact.
I feel impressed to repeat something I just said because it needs to become a reality in our lives.

John 3:35 says:
“The Father loved the son and placed everything in his hands.”
Through the hands of Jesus. . .flowed healing power. . .deliverance. . .and resurrection power. And the great news. . .the same power flows through your hands as well.
John 14:12 says:
“He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”
God very specifically listed in His Word how we are to use our hands to save the lost, heal the sick, deliver the oppressed and finance the end-time harvest.
But it starts with you realizing He’s placed power in your hands. . .
When we are obedient to God. . .He will bless all the work of our hands with every benefit bestowed upon us by the Son.
Deuteronomy 16:15 says:
“The Lord. . .shall bless thee in all thine increase, and in all the works of thine hands.”
Have you noticed that “works of thine hands” appears in most of these scriptures? It’s the works of the hand. . .the power. . .that God releases into your hands.
Now I want you to look at your hands and say the following words out loud.
”These hands have the power to get wealth” (Deut 8:18). Please make this powerful confession three more times. “These hands have the power to get wealth.”
God wants to use your hands. When we move in obedience to His plan, then we are positioning ourselves for a breakthrough miracle in our life.
God desires to send salvation, healing, deliverance and the power to get wealth through your hands . . . but you must be willing and obedient to do His Word.
