Seven Primary Ways Jesus Heals

. .

Jesus is our Great Physician and His power, knowledge and abilities are without limitation because He is Jehovah-Rapha, our God who heals.

Exodus 15:26 says:

“And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee.”

According to Strong’s Concordance. . .the very name of God. . .Jehovah-Rapha reveals He is “. . .the Lord that healeth thee.” (H7495)

The fact that Jesus paid the price for our healing was prophesied 700 years before His birth by the prophet Isaiah.  In fact, Isaiah 53:4-5 says:

“Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses) and carried our sorrows (pains); yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.”

Isaiah prophesied long before Jesus ever walked the earth as a man. . .long before He was crucified and resurrected.  That’s why some people who don’t believe in divine healing cite this verse as historical fact with no spiritual application.  However, we cannot ignore the words of Matthew 8:16-17 which says:

“When evening came, they brought to Him many who were under the power of demons, and He drove out the spirits with a word and restored to health all who were sick.  And thus He fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah, He Himself took [in order to carry away] our weaknesses and infirmities and bore away our diseases.”

When Jesus allowed Himself to be betrayed, falsely accused, wrongly condemned and horribly crucified. . .when He allowed His body to be beaten beyond recognitionHis feet and hands nailed to a cross for something He didn’t do. . . our iniquity was nailed to the cross with Him.

At that very moment, our healing became of part of the Atonement and thus included in our benefit package forever.

There are two kinds of healing.

First, there is natural healing which comes through plenty of rest, proper nutrition and exercise or and also through doctors prescribing medications that aid the natural healing process.

Second, there is supernatural healing.  God does heal through doctors and medicine but it takes the supernatural power of God to break all the power of the devil who brings on sickness and disease as explained in Luke 13:16:

“And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?”

Just speak the Word.

Matthew 8:5-8 in The Living Bible says:

“When Jesus arrived in Capernaum, a Roman army captain came and pled with him to come to his home and heal his servant boy who was in bed paralyzed and racked with pain.  7 “Yes,” Jesus said, “I will come and heal him.”  8-9 Then the officer said, “Sir, I am not worthy to have you in my home; and it isn’t necessary for you to come.[a] If you will only stand here and say, ‘Be healed,’ my servant will get well!”

Healing is not a hit or miss situation.  Healing is not a. . .sometimes He does and sometimes He doesn’t situation.

God always heals by the power of, and through the gifts of, the Holy Spirit as stated in I Corinthians 12:7-9.  The New Living Translation says:

“A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. 9 The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing.”

We receive the gift of healing.  There are primarily seven way through which God heals.

Consequently, it is important to locate the method through which you can release your faith.

Let’s talk a look at those seven ways. . .God heals.

1.      Asking in the name of Jesus.

John 16:23 in the Amplified Bible says:

“In that day you will not [need to] ask Me about anything. I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name [as My representative], He will give you.”

The Living Bible version of John 16:23 says:

“. . . he will give you what you ask for because you use my name.”

There is power in the name of Jesus. . .there’s deliverance in the name of Jesus and there’s healing in the name of Jesus.

When Peter and John encountered the lame man at the gate of the temple which is called beautiful. . .healing virtue was released through the name of Jesus.

Acts 3:3-9 says:

“Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.  4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. 5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.

6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.

9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God.”

Peter created expectation in the man when he said “silver and gold have I none but such as I have give I thee.”

When Peter said “in the name of Jesus” he was loosing the supernatural power of God in one word. . .Jesus.

The man was not healed in the name of Peter or in the name of John. . .he was healed in the name of Jesus.

How are all miracles manifested?

Acts 4:30 in the Amplified Bible says:

“While You extend Your hand to heal, and signs and wonders (attesting miracles) take place through the name [and the authority and power] of Your holy Servant and Son Jesus.”

2.      Laying on of hands.

Not only is there a Biblical doctrine of laying on of hands but the scripture is very specific about how we’re to approach this matter.

Hebrews 6:2 in the Amplified Bible says:

“Of teaching about washings (ritual purifications), the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. [These are all important matters in which you should have been proficient long ago.]”

The laying on of hands is for today. . .as I was typing these words. . .I felt a shooting plan on the left side of my head.  I laid hands on it and commanded it to flee. . .and it did.   God is good. . .and His Word is true.

Not back to Hebrews 6:2. . .the scripture says that YOU should be proficient in the laying on of hands.

It doesn’t just say. . .the pastors, evangelists, elders or any other named group. . .it says YOU. . .that’s you and me. . .must be proficient in the laying on of hands.

How do you become proficient at something. . .by doing it.

God also wants us to clearly understand and visualize how we can touch people’s lives through our hands.

The scriptures are filled with miracles performed simply through the laying on of hands as a point of contact.

When God looks at our hands, He sees unlimited potential for blessings, miracles, and prosperity.  We have that authority as believers!

John 3:35 says:

“The Father loved the son and placed everything in his hands.”

When the soldiers came to take Jesus captive in the Garden of Gethsemane, the first thing they did was to bind His hands.  Why?

. . .those hands had made mud, placed it on the eyes of a blind man that allowed him to instantly see.

. . .those hands took the five loaves and two fishes from a young lad and fed a multitude of people.

. . .those hands had been a point of contact for a great host of people who found His healing touch brought instant relief to their sick and suffering bodies.

. . .those hands had resurrection power – AND so do yours.

John 14:12 says:

“He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”

God very specifically listed in His Word how we are to use our hands to save the lost, heal the sick, deliver the oppressed and finance the end-time harvest.

But it starts with you realizing He’s placed power in your hands. . .

Proverbs 3:27 says:

“Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of THINE HAND to do it”

3.      Anointing with oil.

James 5:14 in The Living Bible says:

“Is anyone sick? He should call for the elders of the church and they should pray over him and pour a little oil upon him, calling on the Lord to heal him.”

I read this verse in a dozen translations. . .and each began with the same question “Is anyone among you sick.”

The passage does not limit or restrict the number of people who can be healed.  There’s no qualifying factors for those who will be healed.  It applies to everybody.

Anointing oil symbolizes the reality of the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Smith Wigglesworth designed and carried a specially made leak-proof vial of oil to use in his ministry.  He would ask people what was going to happen when he anointed them with the oil in Jesus’ Name.

Mr. Wigglesowrth was encouraging them to have faith in the Word of God until they gave a positive reply.

Let’s be clear. . .the oil doesn’t heal the sick. . .it’s just a symbol and point of contact to stimulate faith in God’s Word.

Healing comes by faith in the Word of God.  Those who believe. . .receive. . .those who doubt. . .don’t.

4.      Casting out of the spirit of infirmity.

Another method of healing is by casting out the devil.

Luke 13:11-13 says:

“And there was a woman who for eighteen years had had an illness caused by a spirit (demon). She was bent double, and could not straighten up at all. 12 When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are released from your illness.” 13 Then He laid His hands on her; and immediately she stood erect again and she began glorifying and praising God.”

Some people don’t like to hear the word “devil”; and, consequently, they’ve been bound so long they don’t even think devils exist.

Nonetheless, Jesus spent a third of His ministry casting out devils – spirits of deafness, blindness, infirmities, insanities, convulsions, and palsies.  The devil is cast out by the authority of Jesus Christ.

Some ministers major in deliverance, and they think the only way anyone can get healed is for someone to cast the devil out.  That is only one of the primary ways that God heals and delivers today.  It is not the only one, but in some cases casting the devil out is the way the person needs to receive his healing.  I use that method as the need arises.

5.      The prayer of agreement.

Matthew 18:19 in the New Living Translaiton says:

“I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you.”

The enemy is terrified. . .petrified. . .horrified at the thought of two people coming into the prayer of agreement. . .because He understands the spiritual power that results from the power of two agreeing on anything.

That’s why the enemy will do whatever he can to keep us from coming into the power of agreement.

The enemy fears. . .that’s right he experiences fears too . . . the demon chasing and binding power of two believers who understand their authority, the potential of their agreement and the inevitable result of that union.  Every demon from hell fears the power of two.

“Father, right now, I bind every hindering spirit, trick, trap, lie and deception the enemy has planned for every person hearing my voice or reading my words.  I thank you the Holy Ghost is moving even as these words are being repeated in this prayer of agreement.  We agree that the just-getting-by type of thinking is gone forever.  We agree that healing virtue is flowing over each of us. . .from the top of our heads to the soles of our feet.  In the powerful name of Jesus, we pray.  Hallelujah!  Amen!”

6.      The prayer of binding and loosing.

Matthew 18:18 in the Amplified Bible says:

“I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whatever you bind [forbid, declare to be improper and unlawful] on earth shall have [already] been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose [permit, declare lawful] on earth shall have [already] been loosed in heaven.”

Bind the devil; bind the infirmity; bind the cancer; bind the arthritis; bind the devil.  God understands what is happening in the spirit.

Binding the devil is like fitting him with temporary spiritual handcuffing. You can bind a demon spirit, much like tying something up with rope or chains.

You cannot bind a person's free will, but you can bind the demons affecting or influencing that person.

Remember, we bind demons and evil spirits. . .like sickness but we loose captives or people in bondage.

When Jesus set free the woman with the issue of blood. . .He said to her in Luke 13:12, “Woman, thou art loosed from this infirmity.”

There’s so much more that could be said here. . .but time will not allow.

For instance, according to Strong’s Concordance the Greek word for heaven in Matthew 18:18 is also defined as:  “air, sky.”

That’s why we bind and loose in heaven.

7.      Taking God’s Word as medicine.

Proverbs 4:20-22 in the Amplified Bible says:

“My son, pay attention to my words and be willing to learn; Open your ears to my sayings. Do not let them escape from your sight; Keep them in the center of your heart.  For they are life to those who find them, And healing and health to all their flesh.”

When you’re battling sickness the words you need to hear are from the scripture and words of faith from friends who understand the scriptures.

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer last December 30th. . .we created an environment where there was no negativity. . .no doubt. . .only strong words of faith.

Other than my immediate family and several close associates. . .no one knew that I was to have cancer surgery of January 15th.  None of our twenty employees even knew I was going into the hospital until the morning of the surgery and they didn’t know why I was there. . .they were just asked to pray for me.

Also, that morning I texted five pastors who are very close to me and asked them to pray for surgery that I was about to undertake.

Prior to the surgery and the days that followed. . .I heard nothing but words of healing.  I’m convinced that’s why the lymph nodes and the mass the surgeon removed from my breast were both negative.

Prior to the diagnosis and even the surgery. . .ever time the situation came to my mind I laid my hand across my left breast and prayed.

“Father, in the name of Jesus, I command this mass to dry up, dissolve or disappear never to return to my body again. . .in any manner, method or location.  I think you that healing virtue flows over me from the top of my head to the soles of my feet.  And, I call this down in the strong, healing name of Jesus.  Hallelujah and amen.”

Before I finish this teaching I want to share with you three things to do before you receive your healing.

First, make sure you have repented of any and all sin in your life.  Not all sickness is caused by sin, however, it gives the enemy access to your life, especially your thought processes.

James 5:14-15 in the Amplified Bible says:

“Is anyone among you sick? He should call in the church elders (the spiritual guides). And they should pray over him, anointing him with oil in the Lord's name. And the prayer [that is] of faith will save him who is sick, and the Lord will restore him; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.”

According to 1 John 1:9 if we ask. . .He will forgive our sins.  The Amplified Bible says:

“If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].”

Second, realize that unforgiveness will prevent God from hearing or answering your prayers.

Mark 11:25-26 in the Amplified Bible says:

“And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him and let it drop (leave it, let it go), in order that your Father Who is in heaven may also forgive you your [own] failings and shortcomings and let them drop.  But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your failings and shortcomings.”

If you have any doubt about what I’m saying then understand the words of Psalm 66:18:

“If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.”

Third, develop your knowledge of the Word to overcome sneak attacks of the enemy.

Spiritually speaking, you will always be feeding on the Word. . .or you will feed on fear and doubt.  The latter two will increase the likelihood of your being sick or getting sick on a continual basis.  The enemy also feeds on fear and doubt.  It’s time we starve the rascal to death.

When you study the scriptures you realize the reality of verses like 1 John 5:14-15 in the Amplified Bible:

“14 And this is the confidence (the assurance, the privilege of boldness) which we have in Him: [we are sure] that if we ask anything (make any request) according to His will (in agreement with His own plan), He listens to and hears us.  15 And if (since) we [positively] know that He listens to us in whatever we ask, we also know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that we have [granted us as our present possessions] the requests made of Him.”
