According to dictionary.com the word spontaneous is defined as:

“coming or resulting from a natural impulse or tendency; without effort or premeditation; natural and unconstrained; unplanned; (of a person) given to acting upon sudden impulses; arising from internal forces or causes

Leviticus 22:17-20 TLB

“And the Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron and his sons and all the people of Israel that if an Israelite or other person living among you offers a burnt offering sacrifice to the Lord—whether it is to fulfill a promise or is a spontaneous freewill offering—it will only be acceptable to the Lord if it is a male animal without defect; it must be a young bull or a sheep or a goat. Anything that has a defect must not be offered, for it will not be accepted.”

Philippians 4:18 KJV

“But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to God.”

The offering that is well-pleasing to God is the one He tells you to give.

Malachi 1:10 AMPC

“Oh, that there were even one among you [whose duty it is to minister to Me] who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on My altar to no purpose [an empty, futile, fruitless pretense]! I have no pleasure in you, says the Lord of hosts, nor will I accept an offering from your hand.”

Luke 22:35 AMPC

“And He said to them, When I sent you out with no purse or [provision] bag or sandals, did you lack anything? They answered, Nothing!”

The young boy with the five loaves and two fishes.

Matthew 14:21 says:

“And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.”

John 6:9 AMPC

“There is a little boy here, who has [with him] five barley loaves, and two small fish; but what are they among so many people?”

Matthew 14:16-17 KJV

“But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.”

Matthew 14:20 AMPC

“And they all ate and were satisfied. And they picked up twelve [small hand] baskets full of the broken pieces left over.”

Deuteronomy 15:10 MSG

“Give freely and spontaneously. Don't have a stingy heart. The way you handle matters like this triggers God, your God's, blessing in everything you do, all your work and ventures.”

The way we handle our spontaneous giving. . .will determine God’s blessings in everything we do.

The Shunamite woman was a spontaneous giver.

2 Kings 4:8 KJV

“And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread.”

The Amplified Bible refers to the Shunamite woman as “. . .prominent and influential woman. . .”

The New Living Translation calls her a “wealthy woman.”

The Message Bible calls her “a leading lady of the town.”

According to Strong’s Concordance the Hebrew word for constrained is H2388 and it means:

“to strengthen, prevail, harden, be strong, become strong, be courageous, be firm, grow firm, be resolute”

2 Kings 4:9 KJV

“I perceive that this is a holy man of God, so let’s make an addition to our house and bless him.”

2 Kings 4:10 AMPC

“Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither.”

2 Kings 4:12-14 AMPC

“And he said to Gehazi his servant, “Call this Shunammite.” So he called her and she stood before him.

13 Now he said to Gehazi, “Say to her now, ‘You have gone to all this trouble for us; what can I do for you? Would you like to be mentioned to the king or to the captain of the army?’” She answered, “I live among my own people [in peace and security and need no special favors].”

14 Later Elisha said, “What then is to be done for her?” Gehazi answered, “Well, she has no son and her husband is old.”

Here are seven facts we need to discuss about the Shunamite woman.

First, she was open to the direction of the Lord.

Second, she was a passionate and consistent giver.

Third, she went the extra mile by building an upper chamber for the Man of God.

Fourth, her giving set in motion the ability of God to reward her.

Fifth, the Shunamite woman gave what she had and received what she didn’t have. . .a son.

Sixth, her generous giving put her in a covenant of protection.

Seventh, her giving put her in a covenant of provision.

Here are four amazing scriptural facts about the trials of the Shunamite woman.

First, the woman received inside information and divine instruction during the famine.

2 Kings 8:1 AMPC

“Now Elisha had said to the [Shunammite] woman whose son he had restored to life, “Prepare and go, you and your household, and [a]stay temporarily wherever you can; for the Lord has called for a famine, and moreover, it will come on the land [and continue] for seven years.”

Second, she walked in favor being allowed to sit among Kings and Princes.

2 Kings 8:5 AMPC

“And [just] as Gehazi was telling the king how Elisha had restored the dead to life, behold, the woman whose son he had restored to life appealed to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, “My lord, O king, this is the woman and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.”

Third, she received restoration of the wealth and land she lost.

2 Kings 8:6 AMPC

“When the king asked the woman, she told him [everything]. So the king appointed for her a certain high official, saying, “Restore everything that was hers, including all the produce of the field since the day that she left the land until now.”

Fourth, givers walk in divine timing.

2 Kings 8:5 AMPC

“. . . And Gehazi said, “My lord, O king, this is the woman and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.”
