Let’s talk about 5 Ways to Walk Closer to God.

1. Understand what the will of the Lord is…

Ephesians 5:15-17 in the English Standard Version says:

“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”

The scripture warns us to be careful how we walk out our Christian life.  There are plenty of unwise people in the world. But we are able to walk in wisdom of His will if we choose to do so. 

There are three main keys that lead us to the will of the Lord.  

The first one is reading the Bible.  If we want to know how and what God thinks, we need to read His book.

Many people say they want to, but they don’t know where to start.  If you’re wondering where to start, start at the beginning.  If you think it’s too long, remember the old saying… the best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.

Remember, life is not a sprint, it’s a life-long journey.

Reading through the Bible in a year is okay if you don’t feel rushed.

10.  Think about why God woke you up this morning...what He wants you to accomplish today…and then do something to make it happen.

  9.  Success is not a miracle…it’s a personal decision to activate these seven words.  READ YOUR BIBLE…DO WHAT IT SAYS.

  8.  Today, focus on the 3M’s…making, managing and multiplying God’s money.

  7.  Think BIG…act smart…never give up…embrace your destiny.

  6.  If you’re afraid of what’s going to happen…you’re not listening to the One who makes things happen.

Can you imagine how Moses must have felt?

The first time he tried to help his people he ended up on the backside of the desert.

Talk about discouragement . . .Moses had every reason to be discouraged.

He was going to change the world! He was going to create a better environment for his people!

Moses was going to make a difference!  But instead he was rejected by his people. . .exiled from power and lost his position of prominence.

Life as Moses had known it . . .was over

The first 40 years of his life, Moses had been somebody.

For the next forty years of his life, he was a nobody.

I like that word “but” because when it’s applied to God’s wisdom and plan for future events. . .it means you may be going through stuff. . .you may be disappointed or depressed BUT GOD … that’s right . . . BUT GOD will come through for you.

Our Heavenly Father is faithful to perform what He has promised.

No doubt Moses spent many days leaning on a shepherd’s rod. . .thinking about what could have been. . .thinking there was no way. . .his life would amount to very much again.

But God led Moses to a burning bush which changed him from being a wilderness shepherd into a statesman and a deliverer.

Exodus 3:21,22 which says:

10.  Our circumstances don’t matter…the problems we’re currently facing…don’t matter but our obedience to God’s Word…DOES.

  9.  Never allow your net worth to determine your self-worth.

  8.  A word for someone.  The decision you make today must be based on what’s right and not how others will react.  Isaiah 11:3

  7.  Your attitude and obedience to authority will determine your blessings.

  6.  Stupidity is remembering your sins when God has already forgiven you of them.  Jeremiah 31:34; Hebrews 8:12

Some time ago, I was meditating on God’s Word. . .when three words came to my mind.

BLESSED, BROKEN and MULTIPLIED

The Lord directed me to start searching in His word. As He directed, I began looking.

The first thing He said was. . .let my children know that I want them “BLESSED.”

What does it mean in the natural to be “blessed?”  According to the Roget’s New Millennium Thesaurus” the word blessed has 24 entries:  as a noun, a verb and an adjective.  To be blessed in the human sense is to be:

“happy, blissful, contented, fortunate, joyful, redeemed, saved, welcome, commendable, to be privileged, to possess, to not be in lack, need or want and to be favored.”

In the context of this teaching, the word blessed will mean to not be in lack and to be favored.

The very first thing that God said to Adam and Eve was not. . .

go to church every Sunday,  

read your Bible, pray or support world missions although all of these are wonderful. 

The first thing He said is found in Genesis 1:22:

“And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.”

Have you had someone say “bless you” after you sneezed?  That’s nice but let me tell you what’s spectacular.

In Genesis 12:3 our Heavenly Father explains what His blessing means:

10.  Your breakthroughs are most often ignited by who you’re listening to.

  9.  Fear cannot thrive…where faith is alive.

Sickness is evil. . .it is not of God.

We never see God introduce it in the Bible.  We only see it show up after Satan comes into the picture.

Though there are some well-meaning Christians who feel it’s a cross God wants us to bear. 

Not so.  Absolutely, scripturally speaking. . .not so.
