Debt Determines Your Environment

Written by Harold Herring. Posted in RichThoughts

Years ago, I was praying during a church service at The Wisdom Center in Fort Worth, Texas when the Spirit of the Lord stirred four words in my spirit.  He said:

“Debt Determines Your Environment.”

I knew that was a profound statement. . .with life-changing implications and it was. It later became a book I wrote.

According to dictionary.com the word environment is defined as:

“the aggregate [or the total] of surrounding things, conditions, or influences; surroundings; the social and cultural forces that shape the life of a person or a population.”

Does debt influence you or your surroundings?  Absolutely.

7 Things Better Than iPad, iPhone, iToys

Written by Harold Herring. Posted in RichThoughts

This is the time of year for Christmas lists…from the youngest family member to the oldest.

As our family members grow in age. . .so do the price of their toys.

Dale Evans, wife of Roger Rogers, my childhood heroes once said:

“Christmas, my child, is love in action. Every time we love, every time we give, it's Christmas.”

Roy L. Smith, a renowned Methodist writer of Sunday School literature, once said:

“He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree.”

During this season. . .we want to share with you seven things better than the new iPhone, iPad, iPod or any other iToys produced by competing companies.

And just for the record, I’m not talking about the battle of electronics. . .so I’m not referring to Android, Galaxy or Tablet gadgets.

Here’s my list of the seven things better than iPads, iPhones, iPods and iToys.

7 Characteristics Of A Godly Leader

Written by Harold Herring. Posted in RichThoughts

Make no mistake. . .God created you to be a leader.

You can also know that the enemy has used and is continuing to use some clever tactics to keep you from realizing that YOU ARE A LEADER.  Sadly, many believers allow him to get away with this deadly deception.

You may never have thought of yourself as a leader and truthfully, what you think will hinder what you accomplish.

The real question is what does God think about you being a leader. . .how does God see you?

Ephesians 2:10 in the New Living Translation says:

“For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

You are God’s masterpiece. . .does that sound like you’re a failure, a has been or a never was.  Not only are you His masterpiece. . .but He has plans for you.

I’m going to make a statement and I want you to get it down inside of you. . .in fact, if you get nothing else from this teaching, get this:

You have much more influence in life than you know.  You are a leader.

Are you married?

Do you have children?

Do you have friends?

Do you have authority over anyone at work?

Do you teach a class at church?

Do you help in the church nursery?

Do you have a pet?

  7.  True happiness is not based on what you have...where you live or where you work. It's based on realizing who you are in Him.

7 Keys To Developing True Grit

Written by Harold Herring. Posted in RichThoughts

Recently, I was watching one of my favorite John Wayne movies entitled “Big Jake.”  The Duke as he was known was my favorite movie star during my formative years.  He was always the good guy.  The one who stood for what was right. . .regardless of the consequence.

My three favorite John Wayne quotes are:

# 1    “Life is tough, but it's tougher when you're stupid.”

# 2    “Courage is being scared to death…but saddling up anyway.”

# 3    “Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday.”

John Wayne won his only Oscar in 1969 for the movie “True Grit.”  There’s a point in the movie where 14-year-old Mattie Ross says to Marshal Rooster Cogburn (John Wayne) “They tell me you are a man with true grit.”

Dictionary.com defines true grit as:

“firmness of character; indomitable spirit”

Psychologist Angela Duckworth after studying people in various challenging situations, including National Spelling Bee participants, rookie teachers in tough neighborhoods, and West Point cadets, said she found:

“One characteristic emerged as a significant predictor of success. And it wasn't social intelligence. It wasn't good looks, physical health, and it wasn't IQ. It was grit.”

The best definition I’ve ever heard of grit is:
